From Death Valley to the Lake District: Wild Camping Contrasts

The wet camp in the Lake District

On October 22 I had my last camp on my Yosemite Valley to Death Valley walk. I threw down my sleeping pad and sleeping bag and slept under the stars on the edge of Death Valley itself, a place where the average rainfall is 60mm. Three weeks later I had my first camp since returning to Britain. I pitched my shelter in drizzle in a valley in the Lake District, where the average rainfall is 2000mm+, and crawled inside for the first of two nights of rain. These two wild camping experiences couldn't have been more different. I enjoyed them both.
