Walking Man, the biography of Colin Fletcher, now available on Kindle

I'm excited! Walking Man, the story of my favourite outdoor writer Colin Fletcher, is now out on Kindle. This is a book I've been waiting a long time to read. The physical book should be out soon. I'm buying both!

If you don't know who Colin Fletcher is here's a link to a piece I wrote about him some years ago - http://www.christownsendoutdoors.com/2008/11/colin-fletcher-man-who-walked-through.html.

  1. I read several of Mr. Fletcher's books after moving to Flagstaff, AZ over 20 years ago, but it was The Backpacker'a Handbook that re-kindled my love for getting out beyond my Florida environment. Thanks, Chris

  3. I have read most of his works - they are all fabulous reads. My favorite was The Thousand Mile Summer. I've tried to map out on google maps his route based on the given descriptions. I think today if you tried to recreate that walk you would run into many man-make intrusions including so-called environmental developments like solar farms in the desert (which are a travesty). This man was a throwback to another age - no complaints, tough, never quit. The backstory on this walk of California is that he left his girlfriend in San Francisco not knowing if he wanted to marry her. At the end of his trip his mind was made up and they were married on his return. It lasted 3 weeks!
