"Scotland" reprinted with updates

My book Scotland, in the World Mountain Ranges series from Cicerone Press, has just been reprinted with updates and corrections. The book was first published in October 2010 and since then there have been some changes in hill lists (Munros becoming Corbetts) and some interesting new books on the Scottish hills. I've added these to the book. A few errors were pointed out by eagle-eyed readers and these have been corrected. This does not mean there are no mistakes of course and I welcome any further corrections.

The book was well-received and there were many good reviews - excerpts and links here.

This reprint isn't a rewrite and there are no major changes (though those keen on accurate hill lists may disagree!). However it does mean that anyone buying the book now will be getting one that is up to date.

  1. I bought the book when it first came out and it's a credit to you.
I'm not sure how significant the hill list changes are but if the changes are available for us to download we could then amend the book ourselves.
    What do you think?

  2. Alan, Cicerone has been putting updates and corrections on the website, though these are not up to date - http://www.cicerone.co.uk/product/detail.cfm/book/442/title/scotland. I agree this is a good way to do this. The main list change is that Beinn a'Chlaidhheimh has been demoted from the Munros and is now the highest Corbett.

  3. Thanks Chris. I will take a look at the Cicerone page.

  4. I also bought the first edition, Chris, and I drafted a review that I never published! Perhaps I'll now get around to that - it was a good review but did note an absentee from your extensive bibliography in that Ken Butler and Ken Crossan's excellent 'Wild Flowers of the North Highlands of Scotland' (ISBN: 978 1 84158 832 2) didn't seem to get a mention!
    Congratulations on the reprint.

  5. Thanks Phreerunner. I haven't come across that book so it isn't in the revised edition either. I'll have a look at it.

  6. Neither Amazon nor Cicerone have any mention of this reprint - if I order from them will I get the new edition or the original? Yes I know I can ask them, but I thought I'd get a quicker answer from the horse's mouth ;-)

  7. I'm afraid I don't know the answer Simon. I guess Cicerone have sold all the first print run and probably have none left but I'm not certain. It would be best to ask them.

  8. I got an answer from Cicerone - they said that there has been no revision, just another print run!

  9. It's a reprint with updates not just another print run. I have a copy so I can assure you it has been updated!

I think I'll just order it anyway.
