Winter in the Cairngorms on Backpacking Light
Last November I wandered across the Cairngorm Plateau to Ben MacDui in wonderful winter conditions (see my blog post for November 3, 2008 First Snow on the Cairngorms). A photo essay on this walk entitled Winter in Cairngorms National Park has just been published on Backpacking Light here. All the photos were taken with the Sigma DP1 compact camera, which I was testing at the time.
Photo info: View across the Lairig Ghru from the slopes of Ben MacDui. Sigma DP1, f5.6@1/800, ISO 50, raw file converted to JPEG in Lightroom 2.

Great to find you have a blog page - interesting reading! I bought your book "The Backpackers Handbook" some years ago which has been such a help. I'm doing a JOGLE this year with my dog so I appreciate all the advise your book provided - I still pick it up on a regular basis!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks,
Sophie
Sophie, thanks for your post and good luck with your JOGLE. I'm pleased to hear my book has been useful. I'll follow your walk blog. I see you live in Lampeter. That's where I went to university a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteMagic photo Chris. My first backpack trip in Scotland was over the 4000 summits. The Cairngorm Plateau is a place I have visited many times and will do again. I enjoyed looking at the photos on BPL.
ReplyDeleteSorry to trouble you Chris but do you know the name of the music on the Cowboy coffee video on the BPL.com website. I cant afford to join until April (birthday) and it doesnt say.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Greg
Hi Greg, that's an unusual request! I don't know the name of the song but others have asked this on the BPL forum and one of the replies said "We're exploring ways to make the BPL theme song available to our members. It's come up so many times that it's something we really need to do". I guess then that it's the BPL theme song!
